Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon Greek cross with wavy silver rays between the arms and charged with a stylized red lotus.

Symbolism
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors used for the Army Medical Department.  The cross, a symbol for aid and assistance, refers to the basic mission of the Hospital.  The red lotus and the rays allude to the organization's service in India during World War II.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 828th Station Hospital on 7 January 1989.  It was redesignated for the 828th Evacuation Hospital effective 17 September 1989.
